In mid-July, wildfire smoke hung heavily over Grand Portage. Familiar views disappeared into the haze, residents were advised to stay indoors, and local air-quality readings climbed far beyond the standard index. While the wildfires burning across northeastern Minnesota are not directly threatening the Reservation, the Grand Portage Band is an essential part of the response.
