The Reservation Tribal Council

The Grand Portage Band has the inherent sovereign authority to regulate the activities and persons within its boundaries. We are a sovereign nation federally recognized by the United States government. In 1854, the Grand Portage Anishinaabe leaders were signatories to the 1854 Treaty of LaPointe, which ceded the majority of our homelands to the United States government. We now reside on a small parcel of land known as the Grand Portage Reservation. We are a member of the six band Minnesota Chippewa Tribe as established in 1934 by constitution.
